Fort Richmond is the ruin of a coastal fort on the northwest coast of the Channel Island of Guernsey north of the village of Richmond .
The four-sided fort with walls made of granite was built at the end of the 18th century when England feared an attack from France under the leadership of Napoleon . It has a tower with a square floor plan and a crenellated parapet at each of the four corners . The towers are connected by curtains of almost the same height . A deep trench surrounds the three-story building.
During the Second World War , the Germans , who had occupied the Channel Islands and used it as part of the Atlantic Wall , also took over this fort. After the war, it served as the home of a surf club and later a youth group. It has been in disrepair since 1986 and is no longer used. The sale as a private house is planned.
