The Forum Enger was a music club that existed in the East Westphalian town of Enger in North Rhine-Westphalia from November 1974 to New Year's Eve 1998 and gave numerous young bands the opportunity to perform.

history

Forum Enger was founded as a jazz club in November 1974 in the basement of the old cigar factory on Spenger Strasse in Enger. With its program, the newly founded club became a meeting point for the East Westphalian music scene.

In the 1980s, punk , hardcore , new wave and later hip-hop found their way into the club's program. Die Toten Hosen , BAP , Alphaville , Soundgarden , Motorpsycho , Nirvana (on November 10, 1989 as opening act for Tad ) or Monster Magnet appeared in the forum before they became known to the general public. Forum Enger was voted Germany's best music club in 1989 by the music magazine Spex .

The regular disco appointment was on Sundays. With 400 visitors, the club was considered sold out, but this number was far exceeded at the Christmas Eve parties. A music broadcast as part of the Citizens' Radio from Radio Herford ensured that the dates were announced.

When techno , trance , ambient and internet cafés emerged and the potential audience demanded mass events, the number of visitors fell. Finally, the landlord let the lease expire, which led to a move to the Boge factory in Bielefeld . After about a year of renovation, the Bielefeld Forum was built there, which quickly established itself nationwide and continues to engage national and international artists.

In June 2007 the citizens of Enger decided to found another forum Enger. The Neues Forum Enger eV association has been active since then and organizes various cultural events. Since December 2012 he has been based in the premises of the small train station in the center of Engers in the immediate vicinity of the former location.

Recording of music productions

Several bands, including Paul Roland , Miracle Workers , Serious Drinking and Television Personalities , have released live recordings of concerts in the Forum Enger. Further recordings were released as bootlegs , including those of Nirvana , The Bevis Frond and The Mighty Lemon Drops .
