Fosco Giachetti

Fosco Giachetti (born March 28, 1900 in Sesto Fiorentino , † December 22, 1974 in Rome ) was an Italian actor , one of the most famous and most popular actors in the film of the Mussolini era.

Life

Giachetti began his theater career in the early 1920s with Ermete Zacconi . In the 1927/28 season he started his professional career at Compania Ricci-Bagni. In 1928 he joined the stage company of Tatiana Pavlova . He stayed there until 1933, when Giachetti celebrated a great success in Georg Kaiser's play ' October Day' .

Fosco Giachetti moved in front of the camera in 1933 and from then on concentrated on working in film, where he took on an abundance of leading roles in entertainment productions, some of which were expensive - dramas, historical stories, romantic romance, opera adaptations and melodramas - of varying quality. Extremely popular in Benito Mussolini's fascist Italy , Fosco Giachetti also took part in a series of propaganda strips loyal to the regime such as The White Squadron (1936), Carthage's Fall (1937), Alkazar (1940) and Benghasi - The Fate of a City (1942). For his performance in the last named work he received the Volpi Cup . These films were productions by veteran directors like Augusto Genina and Carmine Gallone . Giachetti played in 1941 together with Gustav Diessl and Isa Miranda in the film Die Weisse Göttin . Directed by Alfredo Guarini .

In the early post-war years his films gained substance, and Giachetti now appeared in socially critical and more time-related subjects (e.g. To New Life , Slaves of Vice ). Under René Clément , he played Laurent Bertal in 1950 in the Italian version of the Franco-Italian Vicki Baum film Rendezvous in Paris . Since the 1950s, when he had to be content with supporting roles, Fosco Giachetti only stood in front of the camera at irregular intervals and played increasingly in television productions. From 1949 he devoted himself increasingly to the theater.
