Officially the second highest lake in the Lake District, exact height is disputed |
The Foxes Tarn is a lake in the Lake District , Cumbria , England . The Foxes Tarn is located southeast of the Sca Fell . The Tarn, which is at an altitude of about 2800 feet or about 853.44 m, is the second highest lake in the Lake District after the Broadcrag Tarn . The exact altitude of the site is controversial and it is also claimed that the exact opposite is true and Foxes Tarn is the highest lake. Since the measurement is based on aerial photographs, it is subject to a certain degree of inaccuracy and reliable information about the exact height can only be obtained by measuring on the ground.
The size of the lake is seasonal, but it is always the second smallest named lake in the Lake District. The very small Foxes Tarn has no recognizable tributary, but has an unnamed drain on its east side that flows into the How Beck , which in turn flows into the River Esk .
