Foxford ( Irish : Béal Easa; dt. Approximately: "mouth of the waterfall") is a country town in County Mayo in the west of the Republic of Ireland . Foxford was formerly called Irish Béal Átha Sionnaigh ("mouth [at the] Fox Ford"), after a rock in the shape of a fox in the River Moy , from which the English name is derived.

The place

Foxford is in the northeastern part of County Mayo, east of Lough Conn and Lough Cullin on the Moy. The small town developed around the Woolen Mills , in which Foxford blankets have been produced since 1892 ; today it is one of the Connacht Provincial Visitor Centers . Located between the Nephin and Ox Mountains , tourism is one of the main sources of income for the place; The 86 km long Foxford Way opens up as a marked hiking trail the sights of various kinds that the area has to offer. The well-known salmon river Moy runs right through Foxford.

At the 2016 Census , Foxford had 1,315 people, an increase of 40% since 1996.

Foxford is 10 miles south of Ballina on the N26 Ballina to Swinford on the N5. With Castlebar , about 20 km south-west location, Foxford is on the N58 connected.

To the rail transport in Ireland Foxford since 1988, after the reopening of the 1963 closed station, via Ballina branch line and Manulla Junction for Intercity -distance Dublin - Westport the Iarnród Éireann reconnected.
