Frédéric L. Bastet
Frédéric Louis Bastet (born September 20, 1926 in Haarlem , † June 29, 2008 in Oegstgeest ) was a Dutch classical archaeologist and writer.
Frédéric L. Bastet studied Classical Archeology, Classical Philology and Ancient History at the Universities of Leiden and Rome . After receiving his doctorate in Leiden in 1958, he worked there at the archaeological institute. He later became a lecturer there and from 1966 to 1976 professor of classical archeology. Since 1976 he has been the curator of the Classical Department at the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden .
Bastet published mainly on Roman wall painting and art in the Hellenistic-Roman period. He was also active as a writer; among other things he published a biography of Louis Couperus . In 2005 he was awarded the PC Hooft-prijs .
