Hendrik Brunsting

Hendrik Brunsting (born March 1, 1902 in Bedum , † May 29, 1997 in Leiden ) was a Dutch Provincial Roman archaeologist .

Life

He studied at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and the Universiteit van Amsterdam and was awarded his dissertation in 1937 with the thesis “Het grafveld onder Hees bij Nijmegen; een bijdrage tot de kennis van Ulpia Noviomagus ”. From 1938 to 1946 he was assistant at the Biological-Archaeological Instituut in Groningen , from 1946 to 1967 conservator at the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden in Leiden. From 1956 until his retirement in 1977 he was professor of archeology and prehistory and early history at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

A foundation to promote the former Archaeological Center of the Free University of Amsterdam ( Archeological Centrum van de Vrije Universiteit ) bears the name Hendrik Brunsting Foundation ( Hendrik Brunsting Stichting ) in his memory .
