Fríða Á. Sigurðardóttir
Fríða Áslaug Sigurðardóttir (born December 11, 1940 in Hornstrandir ; † May 7, 2010 in Reykjavík ) was an Icelandic literary scholar , librarian and writer .
Life
After attending school and studying, Fríða Á. Sigurðardóttir worked as a librarian at the American Library of the University of Iceland ( Háskóli Íslands ) from 1964 to 1970 . She then worked there at the Faculty of Philosophy and then from 1973 to 1975 lecturer at the University of Iceland and the then still independent University of Education ( Kennaraháskoli Íslands ). She then studied at the University of Iceland, where she earned a master's degree in 1979 .
After working full-time as a writer since 1978, she made her actual literary debut in 1980 with Þetta er ekki alvarleger , a collection of short stories. This was followed by other short stories and translations by foreign authors.
For her novel Meðan nóttin líður she was awarded the Icelandic Literature Prize in 1990 and the Nordic Council Literature Prize in 1992 . The novel was first published in German in 1998 under the title Nina's Story , after it had previously been translated into English and other European languages.
In addition, she wrote literary essays in specialist journals and a treatise on the stage works by Jökull Jakobsson . In 2006 her last novel Í húsi Júlíu was published .
Fríða Á. Sigurðardóttir was the bearer of the Icelandic Order of Falcons ( Riddarakross , Knight ), which was awarded to her on June 17, 1994.
