Frailea chiquitana is a species of plant in the genus Frailea from the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Frailea chiquitana grows solitary or sprouting with almost spherical to short cylindrical, greenish yellow to dark green to slightly purple bodies and often forms flat, partially sunk into the ground. The bodies reach heights of 2 to 3 centimeters with a diameter of 2.5 to 3 centimeters and have a large bulbous root. The 24 to 31 ribs are clearly divided into cusps. The elliptical, white to dark brown areoles on it protrude. The 1 to 3 central spines are dark brown and up to 2 millimeters long. The 4 to 5 comb-shaped radial spines are white, bristle-like and also up to 3 millimeters long.

The light yellow flowers are broadly funnel-shaped to bell-shaped. They are 1.7 to 2 centimeters long and can reach a diameter of up to 2.5 centimeters. The spherical fruits are red and have a diameter of up to 10 millimeters.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Frailea chiquitana is common in Bolivia in the Santa Cruz department in the provinces of Chiquitos and Cordillera . The first description was published in 1951 by Martín Cárdenas .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is called " Data Deficient (DD) ", i. H. with insufficient data.
