The Français Rocks are a fringing reef in the Joinville Islands group off the northern tip of the Antarctic Peninsula . They are located off the northeast coast of D'Urville Island .
The French polar explorer Jules Dumont d'Urville named the northeast end of the island as part of the Third French Antarctic Expedition (1837-1840) as Pointe des Français (French for headland of the French ). Since measurements of the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey between 1952 and 1954 and the evaluation of aerial photographs of the Falkland Islands and Dependencies Aerial Survey Expedition (1956–1957) had shown that no designated headland exists at the northeast end of D'Urville Island, d ' Urville's name transferred to the reef rocks described here.
