François-Auguste Biard (born June 29, 1799 in Lyon , † June 20, 1882 in Fontainebleau ) was a French painter .

Life

François-Auguste Biard got his first drawing lessons from the painter Pierre Révoil (1776–1842), the head of the school in Lyon, who urged him to continue his studies in Paris . On his travels he painted oriental landscapes - and genre scenes , sometimes in a romantic and ethnographic-factual style.

The genre painter exhibited his works repeatedly at the Paris Salon between 1818 and 1861 . In 1838 Biard was awarded the Grand-croix de la Légion d'Honneur .
