François Bonvin [ fʀɑ̃ˈswa bɔ̃ˈvɛ̃ ] (born November 22, 1817 , † December 19, 1887 ) was a French painter .

Life

Bonvin was best known for his genre painting and still life . He taught in Paris ; among his students was Henri Edmond Cross .

In Friedrich Müller's The Artists of All Times and Peoples of 1857 he is described as a “genre painter whose pictures: a school of orphan girls , girls' school, handing out merciful sisters to poor people, you get the extraordinary truth, faithful observation and simple conception, the beautiful light effect and undemanding treatment boasting great breadth and softness ”.
