from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

François d'Arbaud de Porchères (born December 20, 1590 in Brignoles , † May 5, 1640 in Sennevoy-le-Haut ) was a French poet, translator and member of the Académie française . He is not to be confused with his academy colleague Honorat de Porchères Laugier .

life and work

From Provence via Paris to Burgundy

François d'Arbaud grew up not far from the Maria Magdalene pilgrimage site in the Massif de la Sainte-Baume , which poetically inspired his piety. In Paris he became a student of François de Malherbe , who bequeathed half of his library to him and whose edition he was in charge of after his death. He came out with psalm translations and occasional poetry and in 1634 was a founding member of the Académie française (seat no. 19). Richelieu offered him a pension. He married in Sennevoy-le-Haut (west of Châtillon-sur-Seine ) and died there at the age of 49.

The sonnets

In 1855 Philippe d'Arbaud-Jouques (1804–1863) published 63 unpublished sonnets by his ancestors. The religiously tinged topic concerns God, creation, the Old and New Testaments, virtues, sins, heaven and hell.
