François de Broglie

François de Buys Broglie (born September 27, 1720 , † November 6, 1757 in Merseburg ) was Count von Revel, royal French brigadier of infantry and colonel of the Poitou regiment.

Life

He was the third son of the Marshal of France François-Marie de Broglie (1671-1745) and his wife Thérèse Gillette de Grandville (born March 11, 1692, † May 4, 1763) (Therese Aegidia of St. Malo). General Victor-François de Broglie was his brother.

He entered French military service at a young age and before 1745 he was colonel in the Poitou regiment. He fought in Bavaria and Bohemia (1741-1743) and on January 16, 1746 in the battle of Piacenza and was wounded. After that he was brigadier of the infantry and was sent on trips to England. During the Seven Years' War he joined Prince Soubise's army . There he commanded the Poitou regiment.

During the Battle of Roßbach he was seriously injured and taken prisoner in Prussia and was brought to Merseburg. He died of his injuries the next day and was buried in the St. Maximi city cemetery in Merseburg. In 1966 his remains were transferred to Paris.
