François de Langes (* 1664 in Orange , † February 29, 1720 in Neuchâtel , entitled to reside in Geneva from 1704 and in Neuchâtel from 1717) was governor of Orange, Prussian colonel and governor of Neuchâtel

François de Langes , Baron de Lubières , comes from the Protestant family from the Principality of Orange . His father Frédéric de Langes was President of Parliament in Orange and died in a French prison in 1697. He was arrested because he did not want to become a Catholic. His mother was his wife Olympe de Langes de Montmirail († 1698).

Life

When Wilhelm III. von Orange-Nassau died in 1702, the French king again raised claims to the principality of Orange, which he had occupied since 1701 as part of the War of the Spanish Succession . Catholic France saw itself threatened by the Protestant principality, so the reprisals increased. The governor François de Langes , who had ruled since 1697, was given permission to retreat to Geneva. In 1702 he went into Prussian service as a colonel in the cavalry. The Prussian King Friedrich I was one of the heirs of Wilhelm III. In Berlin he campaigned for his Protestant compatriots and was chairman of the integration commission in Berlin. In 1714 he became the bearer of the de la Générosité order and commander of the Prussian troops in Neuchâtel and in 1717 the governor of Neuchâtel. As early as 1716 he acquired the Montmirail estate, which was part of the Thielle-Wavre community (dissolved in 2008). François de Langes died in Neuchâtel in 1720.

He was married to Marie Calandrini (* 1677; † December 26, 1762). She was the daughter of Jean-Louis Calandrini , a merchant and officer in the English service.
