Fran Vidic

Fran Vidic (* 1872 in Sankt Paul bei Pragwald (Šent Pavel pri Preboldu); † 1944 in Šentvid nad Ljubljano (Sankt Veit above Laibach)) was a Yugoslav publicist . He became known for translations of Slovenian literary works into German , including short stories and poems by Ivan Cankar and the Zdravljica by France Prešeren .

As an activist of the Liberation Front ( Osvobodilna Fronta ), Fran Vidic was arrested by the Gestapo on December 7, 1943 . In January 1944 he was shot with 24 other hostages in Šentvid nad Ljubljano and is buried in Begunje .
