Francesc Hernández i Sanz

Francesc Hernández i Sanz (* 1863 in Maó , Menorca ; † 1949 ibid) was a Menorcan historian , librarian , illustrator and author .

Life

From 1894 to 1940 he was a professor at the Institute for Graphics l'Institut de dibuix de Maó . Between 1898 and 1934 he was the director and editor of the Revista de Menorca magazine , where he wrote numerous articles on archeology , history , literature , biographies and communal articles on Menorca. As director of the archive l'Arxiu Històric de Maó , he put together an important collection of historical works from 1910 to 1943, which is now in the cultural center of the city of Maó ( Colección Hernández Mora - Hernández de Sanz ).

He is also the author of the Geography and History of Menorca volumes (first edition: 1908), his documentation on Italian opera in the city of Mahón was published in 1917. He has also written articles on archeology which have been published in numerous other books and writings.

In the second half of the nineteenth century he also wrote a bibliography on the life and work of the Menorcan Pasqual Calbo , who worked as a painter at the court of Maria Theresa of Austria .

Francesc Hernández was a member of the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando , where he also participated in several time-critical publications, such as the satirical weekly magazines: La Ilustración Hispanoamericana , and La Campana de Gràcia as well as the play L'Esquella de la Torratxa . During this time he drew, painted, watercolored and made prints to illustrate books, magazines and other documents.
