Francesco Borghese

Francesco Borghese (* 1556 ; † 1620 in Rome ) was Count of Rignano and general of the papal army of Paul V.

Life

Francesco Borghese came from the Roman noble family of the Borghese . He was the son of Count Marcantonio Borghese (1504–1574) from Siena , who moved to Rome with his family in 1541.

His brother Camillo was as Paul V from 1605 to 1621 Pope of the Catholic Church . His brother Giovanni Battista (Giambattista Borghese 1554-1609) was governor of Borgo and castellan of Castel Sant'Angelo . The son from the marriage of his sister Ortensia to Francesco Caffarelli was the later influential Cardinal Scipione Caffarelli Borghese .

With the installation of his brother Paul V as Pope, he received one of the highest secular offices in the Papal States, captain general of the papal guards and castellan of the Ascoli fortress.

He married Ortensia Santacroce Publicola from a Roman noble family. The marriage remained childless. After the death of his brother Giovanni Battista Borghese in 1609 he was head of the Borghese family.
