Francesco Gaude
Francesco Gaude OP (born April 5, 1809 in Cambiano , † December 14, 1860 in Rome ) was a cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church .
Life
Gaude joined the Dominican Order in Turin in 1823 and made perpetual profession on April 20, 1825. In November 1832 he was ordained a priest . He then worked as a theology professor until 1839, first in the Dominican convent of Forlì , then in Lugo . From 1839 to 1844 he taught dogmatic theology at the University of Macerata; he was also superior of the Dominican Convention there. In March 1846, Gaude was appointed to the order of Lombardy , before he became General Procurator of the Dominicans in October of the same year .
After working as a professor at La Sapienza University in Rome, he was appointed consultor of the Congregation of Bishops on March 15, 1853. In October of the same year Gaude became the first rector of the newly founded Seminario Pio . In the consistory of December 17, 1855 Pope Pius IX took him . as Cardinal Priest of Santa Maria in Aracoeli into the College of Cardinals on. On December 21, 1857 he opted for the titular church of Santa Maria sopra Minerva . Cardinal Gaude was previously vice-president of the papal commission that dealt with the restoration of this Dominican church, which was completed in 1855.
Francesco Gaude died in Rome in 1860 and was buried in his titular church, Santa Maria sopra Minerva . Since 1857, and even after his death, several collections of papal decrees appeared, and he was involved in drawing up them.
