Francesco IV Gonzaga

Francesco IV Gonzaga (born May 7, 1586 in Mantua , † December 22, 1612 there ) was Duke of Mantua .

He was the eldest son of Duke Vincenzo I Gonzaga of Mantua and Montferrat and his successor when his father died on February 18, 1612. Ten months later, Francesco also died. Since he did not leave a male heir, the title passed to his brother, Cardinal Ferdinando Gonzaga , who had to retire from church service to continue the family.

He married Margaret of Savoy on February 19, 1608 in Turin (April 28, 1589 - June 26, 1655), daughter of Duke Carlo Emanuele I , with whom he had three children:

  • Maria Gonzaga (July 29, 1609 - August 14, 1660), heiress of the duchies of Mantua and Montferrat ⚭ December 25, 1627 Carlo II Gonzaga (1609–1631), Duke of Nevers and Rethel
  • Luigi Gonzaga (June 27, 1611 - August 3, 1612)
  • Eleonora Gonzaga (September 12, 1612 - September 13, 1612)
