Francesco Maria Farnese
Francesco Maria Farnese (born August 8, 1619 in Parma ; † July 12, 1647 there ) was a cardinal from the noble Farnese family .
Life
Farnese was the son of Ranuccio I Farnese , Duke of Parma , and Margherita Aldobrandini . His father died when Francesco was two years old. Under Pope Urban VIII , Francesco's brother Odoardo I Farnese tried to strengthen his family's position in the College of Cardinals and urged the Pope to appoint new cardinals from the Farnese family.
Only his successor Innocent X appointed Francesco Maria Farnese in the consistory of November 14, 1644 cardinal in pectore . The appointment was not announced until December 4, 1645. Cardinal Farnese never took possession of his titular deaconry . In the final stages of the Thirty Years War , Cardinal Farnese tried to keep a balance between France and Spain. After the death of Duke Odoardo in 1646, he and Margherita de 'Medici reigned for his nephew Ranuccio II Farnese, who was still underage . He died in his hometown in 1647 at the age of 27 after a six-month illness. His grave is in the Capuchin Church of Parma.
