Francesco Maselli
Francesco Maselli (born December 9, 1930 in Rome ) is an Italian film director and screenwriter .
Life
Maselli, the son of an art critic, was active on the part of the Resistancea at a young age and enrolled at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia at the age of seventeen , which he left with a diploma two years later. He was assistant director to Luigi Chiarini and worked with Michelangelo Antonioni ; in addition, he made his first documentaries (which he kept doing until the late 1960s), which were received with great interest. In 1953 he made his debut as a feature film director with his contribution to the episode film Amore in città and two years later he presented a brilliant work with Gli sbandati in which he reflected on the political turmoil surrounding the armistice in Cassibile . After the socially critical La donna del giorno and I delfini , in which he described the hopelessness of the provincial youth in 1960, he filmed Alberto Moravia's first novel , Gli indifferenti , 1963. After two genre films, the again politically committed Lettera aperta a un giornale della sera followed in 1969 . Il sospetto from 1974 describes the experiences of an Italian communist worker in France in 1934. His later works remain notable works; Storia d'amore , a modern neorealistic film, won the special prize of the jury in Venice in 1986 .
In 1996 he again attracted increased attention with his film Cronache dal terzo millenio, an anti-capitalist appeal; At the G8 meeting in Genoa he was responsible for the overall direction of the documentary Un mondo diverso è possibile .
For many years Maselli was chairman of the “Associazione Nazionale degli Autori Cinematografici” and one of the founders of the “Alleanza Mondiale del Cinema”.
