Francesco Pennisi (Bishop)
Francesco Pennisi (born March 4, 1898 in Pedara , Province of Catania , Italy ; † June 25, 1974 ibid.) Was Bishop of Ragusa .
Life
Francesco Pennisi was ordained a priest on August 21, 1921. On July 11, 1950 he was appointed titular bishop of Caesarea in Mauretania and auxiliary bishop in Syracuse . He received his episcopal ordination on August 15 of the same year.
On May 6, 1950, the Diocese of Ragusa was owned by Pope Pius XII. has been rebuilt. However, it did not initially have its own bishop, but was headed by Ettore Baranzini , the archbishop of Syracuse . Francesco Pennisi, who had also been appointed vicar general by Ettore Baranzini , resided as auxiliary bishop in Ragusa , the seat of the newly founded diocese.
After the development of its own diocesan structures in Ragusa had progressed sufficiently, the diocese of Syracuse was separated, and on October 1, 1955, Francesco Pennisi was appointed the first independent bishop of Ragusa. He stayed there until his retirement in 1974.
