Francesco Rognoni Taeggio (* after 1570 in Milan , † after 1626 there) was an Italian composer and violinist .

Live and act

Francesco Rognoni, son of the musician Riccardo Rognoni from Val Taleggio , initially worked as the conductor of Prince Francesco Filiberto von Masserano , from 1613 he was in the service of the regent of Milan and from 1620 he was mentioned as conductor of the church of S. Ambrogio. Rognoni was described by his contemporary, the writer Girolamo Borsieri , as an excellent flautist and violinist.

In addition to various masses, Rognoni published a collection of polyphonic music in 1608 and 1624, and a collection of madrigals in 1613. In 1614 his textbook Aggiunta della scolaro di violino & altri stromenti (lost) was published. As a sequel, his most important work today, the Selva de varii passaggi , appeared in 1620 , which deals in detail with vocal and violin technique as well as the technique of ornamentation ( diminution ). The dedications of various works illustrate his relationship with the Polish King Sigismund III. of Poland and to Archduke Charles of Austria .

Rognoni's writings are now researched by musicology in the service of historical performance practice.

His father Riccardo Rognoni is also considered to be the author of a doctrine of diminution. His brother Giovanni Domenico Rognoni worked as a priest, organist and conductor, among others at S. Sepolcro and in the ducal chapel.
