Francis Brooks

Francis Gerard Brooks (born January 14, 1924 in Rathfriland , County Down , Northern Ireland , † September 4, 2010 in Jerrettspass , Co. Down) was an Irish clergyman and bishop of Dromore in Northern Ireland.

Life

Francis Gerard Brooks was ordained a priest on June 19, 1949 after completing his studies . He taught at St. Coleman's College, Newry , and later served as its president.

Pope Paul VI appointed him bishop of the Diocese of Dromore in 1975 . The Archbishop of Armagh, William Cardinal Conway , donated him episcopal ordination on January 25, 1976 in Newry Cathedral ; Co-consecrators were Archbishop Gaetano Alibrandi , Nuncio in Ireland, and his predecessor Eugene O'Doherty .

Brooks served for many years as Chairman of the Finance Committee of the Irish Bishops' Conference . In 1999 Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
