Francis Hagerup

Georg Francis Hagerup (born January 22, 1853 in Horten , †  February 8, 1921 in Christiania ) was a Norwegian conservative politician , lawyer and diplomat . He was Prime Minister of Norway from October 14, 1895 to February 17, 1898 and again from October 22, 1903 to March 11, 1905.

Hagerup received his doctorate in 1885 at the University of Oslo and worked from 1887 to 1906 as a professor of law. At the same time he headed the Ministry of Justice from 1893 to 1895 and was a member of the Norwegian Parliament from 1900 to 1906. He then acted as ambassador to Denmark and from 1916 to Sweden .

He was chairman of the conservative Høyre party from 1899 to 1902 and was a member of the Norwegian Nobel Committee from 1906 to 1920 .
