Francis James McDonald (born August 22, 1891 in Bowling Green , Kentucky , † September 18, 1968 in Hollywood , California ) was an American film actor .

Life

McDonald began his acting career in the theater. He had his very first film role in 1913 in the short film Carmen , followed by roles in over 300 feature films and, since the 1960s, many roles for television in countless series. He had also played on Broadway , but couldn't establish himself there. He played his first role in a sound film in 1930 in Burning Up . While he played leading roles in the first years of his career, he switched to character roles with increasing age. He had his most important role as "Simon" at the side of Charlton Heston in the film The Ten Commandments , 1956. In total, he played in almost 370 film and television programs until his death.

He was married to actress Mae Busch from 1915 to 1922 . He later had two other marriages. He died in Hollywood in 1968 at the age of 77.
