Francis Sears (physicist)

Francis Weston Sears ( October 1, 1898 - November 12, 1975 ) was an American physicist .

After the First World War , Sears was brought to Cambridge (Massachusetts) as a professor of physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). After 35 years, Sears moved to Dartmouth College in Hanover , New Hampshire in 1956 .

The Optical Society of America named Sears a "Fellow" and he was also a very active member of the American Association of Physics Teachers .

Francis Sears died shortly after his 77th birthday on November 12, 1975.

The Debye-Sears effect is named after him .
