Francis Taylor, Baron Taylor of Hadfield

Francis Taylor, Baron Taylor of Hadfield (born January 7, 1905 in Hadfield ( Derbyshire ), † February 15, 1995 in Sarasota ( Florida )) was an English businessman. He founded the leading international construction company Taylor Woodrow .

Life

Francis Taylor worked in his father's fruit business at the age of eleven. He and his family moved to Blackpool , where, at the age of 16, with the help of his father and a bank, he invested £ 400 to build two houses, which he then sold for a substantial profit of £ 1000 each. That was the beginning of the company founded by Francis Taylor, which became known as Taylor Woodrow and whose name was also the inspiration for Taylor's uncle Jack Woodrow.

In 1974 Francis Taylor was knighted. In 1979 he resigned as managing director, which he had held since 1935, and became the lifelong president of Taylor Woodrow. In 1982 he was named a Life Peer with the title Baron Taylor of Hadfield .

Baron Taylor of Hadfield held the position of President for Life from Taylor Woodrow until his death (February 15, 1995) during his visit to the census-designated place The Meadows, developed by his company, with 3,400 homes and golf courses in Sarasota County in Florida entered.

family

Taylor's first marriage in 1929 had two daughters. After the divorce, Taylor married Christine Hughes for the second time in 1956, who was also involved in Taylor Woodrow and who lived with her daughter Sarah Melville until her death in 2011.
