Francis G. Tresham
Francis G. Tresham ( 1936 - October 23, 2019 ) was a British game designer . He became known as the founder of the 18XX series , which deals with the development of the railroad in different countries, and for the board game Civilization , which influenced the development of the computer game Civilization .
In the early 1970s, Tresham Hartland founded Trefoil to market its games. This company was bought by MicroProse in 1998 in order to obtain the naming rights to Civilization for both computer games and board games. In the same year Tresham founded the publishing house Tresham Games ( Northampton , England ) in order to be able to market further games from the 18XX series.
