Francisco Algora

Francisco Javier Jiménez Algora (born December 7, 1948 in Madrid , † March 30, 2016 in Puerto Real ) was a Spanish actor and author.

Life

Francisco Algora was born in the observatory in the Spanish capital, where his father worked as a porter. He left school at the age of thirteen and worked for a film distribution company. This is how he came into contact with Juan Antonio Bardem . With many jobs Algora financed his acting studies; he finally made his debut alongside Carlos Lemos . In 1968 he joined the independent theater group Los Goliardos and the Teatro Experimental Independiente , with whom he worked under well-known directors. In 1971 he made his television debut alongside Miguel Picazo and on the screen in a film by José María Forqué . Over the years he has built a reputation as one of the most sought-after character actors in his country. He was awarded numerous prizes; like that of the Círculo de Escritores Cinematográficos or the Premio José Isbert . Algoras was cast in numerous full-length works and short films; his filmography includes one hundred entries.

In 1984 Algoras stopped his stage work and in 1991 moved to Vejer de la Frontera in the Andalusian province of Cádiz . In 2004 he published the play Me llamo Jonás ; five years later he took part in the “Poesía Viva” project. A volume of poems, Romance de locos, coplas de ciego , was also published in 2009 .
