Juan Francisco Antonio Hilarión Zea Díaz (born October 21, 1770 in Medellin , Colombia , † November 28, 1822 in Bath , England ) was a Colombian botanist and politician . Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Zea ".

In 1805, as a professor of botany, Zea became director of the Botanical Garden in Madrid . In 1814 he went back to South America . He joined the independence movement of Simón Bolívar against Spanish colonial rule. In 1820 he became Colombia's ambassador to Great Britain .
