Francisco Bayeu
Francisco Bayeu y Subías (born March 9, 1734 in Saragossa , † August 4, 1795 in Madrid ) was a Spanish classicist painter .
He studied with José Luzán and Antonio González Velázquez . In Madrid he won a scholarship to attend the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando . After the death of his parents, he returned to Zaragoza to look after his brothers until he was brought back to Madrid by Anton Raphael Mengs to design the Royal Palace . In 1767 he became court painter to Karl III. , 1765 professor at the academy and 1788 its director.
He not only painted in various palaces and ecclesiastical institutions in Madrid and Saragossa, but also in the monastery of the Cathedral of Toledo and worked for the Royal Tapestry Manufactory.
Francisco de Goya was his brother-in-law - he married his sister Josefa.
His brothers Ramón Bayeu (1746–1793) and Manuel Bayeu (1740–1809) were also painters.
