Francisco Jose Lahmeyer Bugalho

Francisco Jose Lahmeyer Bugalho (born July 26, 1905 in Porto , Portugal , † January 29, 1949 in Castelo de Vide , Portugal) was a Portuguese poet of German descent from the group of the Presença. He was the father of the poet and Germanist Cristovam Pavia .

Bugalho was born in Porto as the son of a German and a Portuguese. He studied law in Coimbra , where he joined the literary group Presença , which also included well-known authors such as João Gaspar Simões , José Régio and Branquinho da Fonseca . He had a lifelong friendship with Regio .

He later moved to the Quinta dos Palmeiras near Castelo de Vide . There he lived as a registrar in the nearby Castelo de Vide and with his wife and only child, the later poet Cristovam Pavia.

As a poet, he had various publications in magazines and journals, his first in 1929. The first book followed in 1931, the Margens volume of poetry , and other volumes of poetry followed. The artist's truth and intimacy played a major role in his work , he was also referred to as the “melancholy poet of the Alentejo ”.
