Franck Songo'o (born May 14, 1987 in Yaoundé , Cameroon ) is a Cameroonian soccer player who plays for Portland Timbers in the North American Major League Soccer . He also has a French passport.

Player career

National

Franck Songo'o, son of the former Cameroonian national goalkeeper Jacques Songo'o , began his career as a footballer in the youth of Deportivo La Coruña , where his father also played. He then moved to FC Barcelona for three years (2002-2005) . There he could not prevail and so he accepted the offer of the English first division club Portsmouth . In three years, however, he only came on three missions there.

Songo'o was awarded a total of four times during his time in England. First in 2006 to the AFC Bournemouth , then in 2007 to the second division clubs Preston North End and Crystal Palace , where he was able to gain his first experience in professional football. In the spring of 2008, Songo'o was awarded to Sheffield Wednesday , for which he scored his first two professional goals.

In summer 2008, the Cameroonian moved to the Spanish second division Real Saragossa . With Saragossa he managed to return to the Primera División in 2009 , where he hardly played. During the winter break he was loaned to Real Sociedad San Sebastián in the Segunda División, where he also made promotion. However, since his return to Zaragoza in summer 2010, he has not been considered there.

For this reason, he signed a contract with the Spanish second division club Albacete Balompié in the summer of 2011 .

International

Franck Songo'o originally played for France's U19s. However, he got an offer from his home country Cameroon to play for their senior national team and so he changed the national team with the approval of Fifa. He took part in the 2008 Olympics and was used in three games.
