Franco Coop

Franco Coop (actually Francesco Coop ; born September 27, 1891 in Naples , † March 27, 1962 in Rome ) was an Italian actor .

Life

Coop, son of the well-known doctor Professor Silvio Coop and nephew of the pianist Ernesto Coop (1859–1929), began his theater career on April 8, 1916 as a member of the Tina Di Lorenzo / Armando Falconi ensemble . 1921 took part in the "Teatro del Popolo" in Rome under contract, then (from 1923) he played in the "Teatro degli Italiani" under the direction of Lucio D'Ambra , then again followed a time as a freelance performer in which he participated numerous stage greats such as Ermete Zacconi , Camillo Pilotto , Lamberto Picasso , Uberto Palmarini , Alda Borelli and Ernesto Ferrero was seen. During the European tour in 1927/1928 he accompanied the Gramatica sisters and in 1929 joined the “Compagnia degli Spettacoli Za-Bum”, which was under the direction of Mario Mattòli . Here he proved himself as a brilliant and funny actor. His greatest critical success followed in 1937 when he was celebrated for his appearances in Francesca da Rimini alongside Andreina Pagnani , Sandro Ruffini , Aroldo Tieri and Filippo Scelzo under the direction of Renato Simoni at the "Teatro Argentina". In 1938 he played in the revue company of Pina Renzi and Ermanno Roveri . From 1943 to 1945 Coop stayed with a few colleagues in Spain and, like several times before, worked as a voice actor . In 1946 he was seen in the author Fausto Pantosti's production of Mettiamo l'occhio al buco .

Coop's film debut took place at the beginning of the sound film age, in 1930, when he was under contract with the Cines and became one of the busiest character actors in Italian productions for a good decade. Even after the war he remained active in such roles until his death. On television, a broadcast of the miniseries Mont Oriol , directed by Claudio Fino in 1958, was outstanding among some works (especially RAI prose pieces) . The children's program Il teatro dei ragazzi also benefited from his participation.

Coop was also active as a musician and composer; in 1953 he was seen alongside Marta Abba in the revue Come ti mi vuoi .

Coop was married to fellow actress Maria Montesano , with whom he also appeared in a number of films. He died of pulmonary edema at the age of 71.
