Bettina Wagner

Bettina Wagner (born September 9, 1964 in Würzburg ) is a German specialist in German , Middle Latin and librarian . Since October 1st, 2016 she has been the head of the Bamberg State Library .

Life

Bettina Wagner is the only child of bank director Engelbert Wagner. She studied German, Romance languages and Middle Latin at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg and the University of Oxford . In 1994 she was in Würzburg with a dissertation on a medieval text ( Epistola presbiteri Johannis ) PhD . From 1992 to 1996 she worked on a project to index the incunabula collection of the Bodleian Library at the University of Oxford.

From 1996 to 1998 she completed her legal clerkship for service at academic libraries in Bavaria , from 1998 to 2016 she was employed at the Bavarian State Library in Munich . In 2002/2003 she was seconded to the German Research Foundation in Bonn , where she worked in the field of scientific literature and information systems. From 2005 to 2016 she was head of the Manuscript Indexing Center and Incunabula Collection department in the Department of Manuscripts and Old Prints of the Bavarian State Library. Since October 1, 2016, she has succeeded Werner Taegert as director of the Bamberg State Library.

On September 3, 2019, Bettina Wagner was appointed honorary professor for the field of "Book History of the Middle Ages and the Early Modern Age" at the Otto Friedrich University in Bamberg . She has been the President of the ETA Hoffmann Society since 2020 .

Since 1991 Bettina Wagner has taught German and Middle Latin at the universities of Würzburg, Oxford, Erlangen-Nuremberg and Munich . She teaches book history at the Bavarian Library Academy . Since 2002 she has been subject librarian for electronic review journal IASLonline since 2016 with the editor of the Middle Latin yearbook and the yearbook for book and library history .
