Werner Taegert

Werner Taegert (born May 7, 1950 in Hameln ) is a German classical philologist , English scholar and librarian . From 2006 to 2016 he was head of the Bamberg State Library .

Life

Werner Taegert passed his Abitur at the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gymnasium in Hameln , Würzburg and Hanover in 1968. He studied Classical Philology and English from 1968 to 1971 at the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg , from 1971 to 1972 at the State University of New York at Albany (Master of Arts in Classics 1974) and from 1972 to 1974 at Friedrich-Alexander -Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg ( state examination for higher teaching qualifications at grammar schools 1974). From 1975 to 1979 he was a research assistant at the Institute for Classical Philology at the University of Würzburg. In 1979 he received his doctorate in Würzburg .

From 1979 to 1981 he completed his legal clerkship for service at academic libraries in Bavaria . From 1981 he worked at the Bamberg University Library and from 1985 at the Bamberg State Library , which he took over from Bernhard Schemmel from 2006 until his retirement in 2016. His successor is Bettina Wagner .

From 1980 to 1981 he was a lecturer in Classical Philology at the University of Würzburg, and from 1994 at the Otto Friedrich University of Bamberg . In 2005 the Bavarian State Minister for Science, Research and Art made him an honorary professor for the field of “ Latin literature of late antiquity and early modern times ” at the University of Bamberg.
