Franco Tagliavini

Franco Tagliavini (born October 29, 1934 in Novellara ; † August 15, 2010 ibid) was an Italian opera singer ( tenor ).

Career

Tagliavini studied singing at the Vercelli College of Music with the soprano Zita Fumagalli-Riva (1893-1994). In 1961 he was one of the winners of the "Aslico" singing competition (Associazione Lirica e Concertista Italiana). This competition allowed him to debut in 1962 at the Teatro Nuovo in Milan, in the role of Canio in Pagliacci , then at the Teatro Bellini in Catania as Cavaradossi in Tosca . He began on April 10, 1965 at La Scala in Milan in the role of Amenophis in Mosè by Rossini . He made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York on March 27, 1970 in Vincenzo Bellini's Norma with Joan Sutherland and Marilyn Horne .
