Frank Ahnert

Frank O. Ahnert (born December 12, 1927 in Wittgensdorf ; † September 10, 2017 in Cambridge ) was a German geographer and university professor at RWTH Aachen University .

Life

After studying geography at the University of Heidelberg , he received his doctorate there in 1953 on the surface shapes of the Dahn rock country in southern Haardt . From 1954 to 1974 he taught at the University of Maryland . From 1966 he was a professor there. In 1974 he followed the call to the RWTH Aachen for the chair for physical geography and geoecology. His particular research interest was the modeling of earth surface processes. In 1993 he retired. One of his most important works is the introduction to geomorphology , which has appeared in several editions since 1996 and also in English. In 2013 he received the Ferdinand von Richthofen Medal from the German Working Group for Geomorphology.
