Arno Semmel

Arno Semmel (born August 5, 1929 in Selchow , Pomerania ; † October 10, 2010 ) was a German geographer , geologist and geomorphologist .

Live and act

Arno Semmel studied in Rostock, Berlin and Frankfurt am Main. He was employed as a geologist at the Hessian State Office for Soil Research in Wiesbaden, briefly was a scientific advisor and professor at the Geographical Institute of the University of Würzburg and from 1970 professor at the Institute for Physical Geography at the University of Frankfurt am Main . The University of Heidelberg awarded him an honorary doctorate .

Research priorities

Semmel made a name for itself by researching the rubble layers and surface layers in central Germany . His main research interests included soil geography , periglacial morphology and applied conventional geomorphology. Arno Semmel published work on Pleistocene relief formation in Hesse, recent periglacial areas, and the geomorphology of the Federal Republic of Germany.
