Otto Gritschneder (born January 11, 1914 in Munich - Schwanthalerhöhe , † March 4, 2005 in Munich) was a German legal historian , lawyer and publicist .

Life

Otto Gritschneder completed his Abitur at the Wittelsbacher Gymnasium in Munich. He was a classmate of Alfred Andersch and in 1980, in a letter to the editor, vehemently contradicted the portrayal of the headmaster Joseph Gebhard Himmler, Heinrich Himmler's father , in Andersch's story The Father of a Murderer . As a high school graduate, he joined the Bavarian People's Party . From 1933 to 1936 he studied law at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . In 1938 he was promoted to Dr. jur. PhD . He passed his two state law exams in 1936 and 1939.

In 1933 he became a member of the Catholic student association KDStV Aenania Munich in the CV and met Rupert Mayer . As a law clerk and assessor shorthand he 1938 Nazi trial Jesuit priest Rupert Mayer in the special court of Munich. After the end of the trial, he was banned from practicing law because he was "entirely unrelated to the state"; In 1939 he was refused admission to the bar (“technically suitable, but politically so unreliable”). After five years in the war, he was appointed a lawyer by the American military government in 1945 and opened a law firm. Albert Scharf was later a partner . In 1964 he defended the publisher of the Spiegel , Rudolf Augstein , against Franz Josef Strauss .

From 1948 to 1952 he was city ​​councilor of the state capital Munich as a non-party candidate.

In 1953 he founded the legal press service Gritschneder , which processes current court decisions and delivers them to the media and is now run by the founder's grandson, Andreas Gritschneder.

Gritschneder published mainly on the subject of Hitler and justice; He published his notes from the trial against Rupert Mayer in 1965. He also told very amusing stories from his legal work in the lawyers' stories (CH Beck). In 1996 he published his memoirs technically suitable, politically unreliable . His work cost overview tables appeared in the 15th edition.

Gritschneder has always spoken out against abortion and state divorce . To this end, he had published Drum check who binds himself forever in 1954 .

He had nine children with his wife Margarete.
