Frank Demant (* 1959 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German writer and publisher.

Career

Demant grew up in the Fechenheim district of Frankfurt . Until 1977 he attended the Helmholtz School in Ostend , graduated the year before the Abitur, but thus had the secondary school leaving certificate . His desire to go to sea had already developed as a schoolboy. The submitted application for community service failed because of the examination of conscience, which was decided with 2: 3 votes against him. Military service in the German Navy took him to Belgium, Great Britain, Iceland, Canada and Norway as part of military exercises. In the course of this it became apparent that he was getting his dream job as a seaman because of permanent seasicknesswould not be able to exercise. Back in Frankfurt he made the P license and was a taxi driver from 1984. He preferred to devote the usual waiting times at the stopping places to reading literary material.

In the mid-1990s, Demant's father was the victim of one of the biggest banking scandals in Germany, reason enough for the son to put his experiences during the breaks at taxi stops on paper and to write a book for the first time. This was published in 2002, but did not lead to fees or royalties, but to unforeseen expenses because the publisher did not pay. Demant drew the conclusions from this and founded his own Röschen publishing house in the spring of 2003 . There his first work was published in 2005 in a new edition.

The joy of the birth of this work had before the creation of the fictional character Simon Schweitzer made a fictional protagonist from the Frankfurt apple wine -Stadtteil Sachsenhausen . Demant has lived there for decades. The fictional character was chosen to make a name for himself as a crime hero. The small edition of 300 copies of the first volume of the planned crime series was completely out of stock after only eleven weeks, although the lack of ISBN made it much more difficult for the national book trade to find the source of the books in the event of specific inquiries. Demant decided on a second edition of 2,000 copies. For this project, however, he first had to borrow the necessary capital from friends. When it finally became clear that developing and writing crime fiction wasn't just a hobby, it made sense to put an ISBN on your book titles.

The fourth edition of his second title was published in 2005, the third title was sold out after only seven months, despite a print run of 5,000 copies, and the second edition was launched. Readings in Frankfurt's Ebbelwei-Express , a historic tram with a special paint scheme, cider and pretzel tasting during the special trip, contributed to the rapid increase in awareness. In May 2005 Demant gave up the job of taxi driver. Self-publishing required more and more organization and bookkeeping, and there was hardly any time left for writing. From 2006, sales were therefore outsourced.

A crime writer who, in addition to suspense, crooks subject with criminal energies, and dreams for quick money, also delivers typical Ebbelwei mother jokes in printed form. "

Demant's literary role models include authors such as TC Boyle , Sven Regener and David Foster Wallace .
