Frank Fournier

Frank Fournier (* 1948 in Saint-Sever ) is a French photojournalist . His picture of Omayra Sánchez trapped in a mud hole was voted Press Photo of the Year 1985.

Life

Fournier was born in Saint-Sever in 1948, the son of a surgeon. He first studied medicine for four years before turning to photography in 1975. Fournier has been working for the Contact Press Images photo agency since 1977 . As part of his work, Fournier documented the genocide in Rwanda and the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, and worked on reports on children suffering from AIDS in Romania and on victims of rape during the Bosnian war . Images from the AIDS report in Romania were recognized by the World Press Photo Foundation, as was a picture of people in Wall Street on Black Monday 1987.
