Frank Hammer

Frank Hammer (born September 12, 1955 in Frankfurt (Oder) ) is a German politician ( Die Linke ). From 1999 to 2009 he was a member of the Brandenburg State Parliament .

Life

Hammer did his military service with the Feliks Dzierzynski Guard Regiment and completed vocational training as a shipbuilder at the Mathias Thesen shipyard in Wismar from 1972 to 1974 . He then worked as a shipbuilder until 1978 and then studied cultural studies at the college for club leaders in Meißen until 1981, where he graduated as club leader.

After two years as director of the cultural center, he also studied literature from 1982 to 1985 at the Institute for Literature in Leipzig .

This was followed by activities in various professions and, after the reunification, unemployment from 1989 to 1990. From 1990 Hammer was full-time and honorary district chairman of the PDS Frankfurt (Oder) for three years . From 1992 to 1999 he finally worked as a street worker / youth social worker for the Berlin youth welfare organization Independent Living .

Frank Hammer has two children.

He was a member of the SED since 1974 and of the PDS from 1990. From 1990 to 1992 and again from 1993 he was a member of the city council of Frankfurt (Oder).

Frank Hammer was a member of the Brandenburg State Parliament from 1999 to 2009, into which he was able to move through a direct mandate in the Frankfurt (Oder) state constituency . In the 4th electoral term he was the spokesman for Eastern European policy in his group and a member of the committee for European affairs and development policy .

In the run-up to the mayoral elections in Frankfurt (Oder) in December 2009, he was not nominated by his party. The background to this was his earlier work as an unofficial employee of the MfS . He had signed a letter of commitment and has been open about his past since 1992.
