Frank La Rocca (* 1951 in New Jersey ) is an American composer .

Life

Frank La Rocca was born in New Jersey in 1951. He studied at Yale and the University of Berkeley . Early experiences in music range from classical piano to electronic keyboards to a variety of rock and blues bands. He was already composing his first works at the age of 14. His teachers are Edwin Dugger, Olly Wilson, Andrew Imbrie , Jonathan Kramer, Frank Lewin and John Mauceri. His many awards and honors include a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Californian artist society, and a prize for young composers from the US collecting society ASCAP.

La Rocca has received multiple awards for outstanding service as Professor of Music at California State University, East Bay .

La Rocca's music is performed in North America, Europe, Japan and Korea. Recordings have been made by the San Francisco Girls Choir, the Prague Radio Choir and Orchestra, the Alexander String Quartet and many others. His works are published by Boosey & Hawkes and Walton Music.

Frank La Rocca teaches at California State University, East Bay , where he is chairman of the music department.
