Frank Martin (politician)
Frank Kieffer Martin (born November 4, 1938 in Columbus , Georgia ; † August 12, 2012 there ) was an American lawyer and politician .
Life
Martin graduated from the University of Georgia Law School . He later became a prosecutor and then worked as a criminal defense attorney . In 1964 he founded the law firm Martin Law Firm
In 1990 he was elected mayor of Columbus, replacing James Jernigan . He was inaugurated in 1991. At the end of his four-year tenure, he returned to practice as a lawyer, practicing with his son John T. Martin, who joined his father's law firm in 1995.
In 2008 he published the fictional novel Sowega based on cases he worked on during his career as a lawyer.
Martin was married and had three children, two sons and a daughter. He died at the age of 73 from complications from pancreatic cancer in St. Francis Hospital . In October 2013, a pedestrian bridge connecting Columbus and the Alabama city of Phenix City was named after him.
