Francis "Frank" Meechan (born October 27, 1929 in Condorrat , Scotland , † August 20, 1976 in Croy , Scotland) was a Scottish football player . In his playing career he won numerous titles with Celtic Glasgow .

Career

Frank Meechan was born in 1929 in Condorrat , a small village in the North Lanarkshire region. In his youth he played football for Hibernian Edinburgh . In July 1952 he signed a contract with Celtic Glasgow . The Meechan used in defense made his debut in August 1952 in the team of Celtic in a 3-0 defeat against Hibernian . In the final of the Coronation Cup in 1953, which was played in honor of the coronation of Elizabeth II , Meechan was left with only one place as a substitute behind Alex Rollo . He was used regularly in the league and the cup. In 1954 he won the championship and cup double with Celtic . In 1957 and 1958 he won the league cup twice in a row with the team. Meechan played for Celtic from 1952 to 1959 in 116 games (86 league games). In the 1958/59 season he was awarded to Stirling Albion before ending his career. After retiring from his career, he worked as a scout for Celtic from 1968 to 1975 . He died in Croy in 1976 at the age of 47 .
