Frank Mushyo Kamanzi

Frank Mushyo Kamanzi (* 1964 in Uganda ) is a Rwandan lieutenant general who was, among other things, commander of the UN troops in the African Union / United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) between 2016 and 2017 and has been commander of the UN troops of the United Nations Mission in the Republic of South Sudan (UNMISS) is.

Life

After attending school, Kamanzi began studying agricultural science at Makerere University in Kampala and graduated with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc. Agriculture). In 1988 he joined the armed forces of Rwanda and, after completing his officer training, served in various positions in the army. He also graduated from the Armed Forces Command and Staff College of the Nigerian Armed Forces in Jaji and the Army Commanders Academy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army in Nanjing . He completed another postgraduate course in national security strategies at the National Defense University at Fort Lesley J. McNair in Washington, DC with a Master of Science degree (M.Sc. Between 1999 and 2000 he was a member of the Joint Military Commission of the Lusaka Peace Process for the Democratic Republic of the Congo and, after further assignments in the Armed Forces of Rwanda, from 2006 to 2007 commander of the troops of the African Union Mission in Sudan (AMIS). After returning to Rwanda, Kamanzi was the commander of an infantry brigade from 2007 to 2010 and then commander of the Rwandan Military Academy between 2010 and 2012, before becoming Chief of Staff of the Rwandan Army from 2012 to 2015.

On December 14, 2015, Kamanzi was appointed by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to commander the UN forces in the African Union / United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID), a joint AU and UN operation in Darfur . In this position he succeeded the Tanzanian Lieutenant General Paul Ignace Mella and held the position until April 2017.
