Frank Popp (artist)

Frank Popp (* 1941 in Königsberg (Prussia) ; † August 11, 2020 ) was a German university lecturer and sculptor .

Life

From 1962 Popp studied architecture at the RWTH in Aachen and worked there as an assistant to Hubert Berke . After graduating in 1970, he worked for Gottfried Böhm before he was appointed professor for art and design at the Hanover University of Applied Sciences (now Hanover University ) in 1977 . He had his first solo exhibition in 1985 at the Kunstverein Wolfenbüttel, which was followed by numerous other exhibitions in Germany and internationally. He retired in 2006.

A focus of Popps work is the collage technique and the creation of sculptures from everyday objects.

Popp belonged to the artist groups Gruppe 7 and the Arche from Hameln.
